EhimeEhime is home to Dogo Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot springs with a history going back almost 1,000 years. In the loosely auto-biographical novel **Botchan**, famous late 1800s author Matsume Soseki has the main character frequent the springs as a favorite retreat. The prefectural capital Matsuyama is best known for its castle. Of course Ehime's many temples are on Kobo Daishi's 88 temple pilgrimage, a route that goes across all four prefectures of Shikoku. The mild weather and the Seto Inland Sea make for delicious food in Ehime. Try the local seafood, sake and mikan (Mandarin oranges) and be sure to taste the "goshiki somen" (five-colored thin noodles).
